Cinema Paridiso
Memories,
Mirrors behind the eyes
their rich pasts occlude the present
and yet, take dominion over me,
like smudges to film.
Rich moments of love pass
like time slowed-motion in dark waves
stitching through me, each pierces,
a sensual chill bringing
its fill of images, twinges,
unions of mind and heart this once,
gently like warm fog coming in,
a hot wind under one's eaves.
Such feel the insinuous memories
evoked in films of fleeting childhood.
Why are these youth visions so soothing
of mind; even this wild old bronco is eased by them.
There seem no such twinges from grown times,
no bold fresh palettes of color, nor
Renoir's fields of lilies. From ages
younger than seventeen, visions
sharp and keen, recollections enfolding,
army blanket arms formed
round over-forty hides
mimicking the love of our brides,
a thicketofmind.
