Intertwined

Rising from bed I kiss and hug you
heading for the shower,
later exiting to shave, you pass,
again a vertical hug shared.

How interesting this morning transition
to work, to a place of often remoteness.
I notice the vase of wildflowers on my dresser
and a cut page from readers digest of all things,
a note from E.B. White about beauty seen in the familiar.

You in your robe
newly dried , my hand cups
your breast whispering I love you,
I move on into a bowl of cereal
revving up for the transition.

Quick glances at the news
talk of political infidelities
stories of pursuit and personal gain;
rising beside you we two remain
a physical unity of closeness.

Good-byes to Eli and Sarah,
fatherly hugs,
then a last drink from your well
of well-being, pulling you close,

willing you near for the day
away, good-bye,
see you tonight.
I am gone!
