Mario
You lead thousands,
you had potential.
You weren't even a commie,
you could solve an exponential.
You and your team
founded what became
The-Movement from the
bedrock of Free Speech.
That was 1964
around the cop car
in Berkeley's Sproul Plaza
consequences of campus politicking,
the November campaign,
unsettling politicians & administrators.
Now you are a little old
and more local,
down to earth.
In fact as of yesterday you are the earth .
I knew you only from
all night 'organizing' discussions,
deciding what to do. Later two
walking talkings about power, and knowledge.
When you retired from The-Movement
somehwere in 65 and after The-700-
were-arrested, after the campus wide strike,
after being dragged from the stage of the greek theater;
I asked you why? and you said
'It's important that The-Movement
have its own existance. It should
live on without me.
That was before Chicago, 1968.
That was before Kent State
That was before.
And still does in the
Peace and Freedom party,
You though Mario
are still at the heart of its Integrity.
